Gymnastics At Home (summer edition)

When school comes to an end and summer starts, students enjoy the dog days of summer by doing what anyone would do; enjoying the beach and having fun. However, there is one dangerous thing that parents face; child boredom. When kids are bored, all heck could break loose within two seconds. They will test boundaries, and do the impossible for the sake of stimulation. To avoid this, one of the best things for parents to do is to throw them into summer classes and sports to keep them occupied. However, sports and schooling can only keep them preoccupied for a certain amount of time. For this reason, I bring to you gentle readers; gymnastic techniques you can practice at home.

1. Splits: One of the biggest skills in gymnastics. If you are sitting at home watching TV or an iPad, just sit in the split position (or as low as you can go) to easily increase your flexibility!

2. Bridge: This skill will increase your flexibility and lead to a stronger back handspring in the future! Push your head off the ground and hold for 10 seconds. Have a parent spot you if you need help.

3. Handstands: This one can be the most fun to practice; just find a good wall and throw your feet up. Hold it for as long as you can and try again! Stay away from hard floor while practicing this.

4. Cartwheels: These are a great trick to practice outside on grass. Once you’ve mastered double hand, try single hand.

5. Forward Roll: The forward roll can seem scary at first, but it helps with many skills in gymnastics and is super fun to practice at home. Just make sure you have room to practice before tumbling, and tuck your chin in!
